North Korea test

On Friday we had a test on North Korea.  It was pretty easy.  I got a 90%, which is good for me because I usually get into the 80's or lower on Human Geo tests.  It was also the last day of Human Geo, which is really upsetting because I honestly loved my class.  We were the smart class.  I'm still in the same class next semester with Mr. Schick, but some people are leaving, and some people are coming in.  I'm sure I'll like my Western Civilization class as much as I liked my Human Geo class.  I'll try not to make drama in the class, like I did on Friday.  I guess we'll see how it goes.

Test tomorrow

Today we had Mr. Holland, who was looking at our class.  He left about halfway through the class.Mr. Schick told him to watch our class (he loves us).  Karson taught the class.  She basically told us the same things we had learned before, like Cody did last week. I did get a few more notes to study, even though the PowerPoint is on Mr. Schick's website.

Also, the semester ends tomorrow.  Next semester I have Western Civilization with him next year and mostly everyone in my class.  I'm excited!  We're obviously the smart class and Mr. Schick's favorite class.  I hope Western Civ is as good as Human Geo was.  It's my favorite class.

North Korea movie (late)

Yesterday we watched a documentary about North Korea.  It was very interesting to see what really goes on in North Korea.  Everyone worship Kim Jong-Il in it.  I wish North Koreans had access to the outside world.  I feel a little sorry for them.

North Korea Documentary

In class, we watched a North Korea documentary.  It's basically about this woman that wants to show what North Korea is like.  Since it's nearly impossible to get in as an American, she teamed up with a doctor, who is helping around 10,000 people with their cataracts.  She is "taping his surgeries," be she's really bringing a camera all around North Korea to document how oppressive the government is.  We're finishing the documentary on Tuesday.

Cody taught the class

Today Mr. Schick's daughter was following him around for the day.  (She's a sophomore in college.) Because of that, Mr. Schick decided to let Cody teach the class.  Before that, he was telling his daughter what some of his would be doing in the future.  (He didn't mention me.)  Cody and Zach are going to be in the NFL.  (I'm pretty sure that's what Mr. Schick said.)  Steven is going to be in the NRA.  Adam is going to have an extended prison sentence.  Kendall is going to be the future president of the United States.  Trish is going back to China and rule everything or something.

Ok, now let's talk about Cody teaching the class.  Mr. Schick showed us the same slides he showed us yesterday, so I didn't get any notes.  Basically, Cody was reading off the slides, but it was hilarious.  He was asking us what was the next thing that was going up on the slide.  On the slides with the maps, he asked us where Pyongyang was by directing him North, South, East, or West.  Then one of the boys will ask him a question that he doesn't know and he'll just make it up.   It was an amazing class.

North Korea

This is late (oops).  Yesterday in class we learned about North Korea.  Here are the notes I took:

North Korea:

  • oppressive government
  • very secluded and isolated from the world
  • currently headed by Kim Jong-Un
  • Kim Jong-Un didn't seem to like "The Interview"
Oppressive Government:
  • state-run socialist government that may consider to be a Stalinist dictatorship
  • official name: Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)
  • notice that they say "Korea", not North Korea - they claim to be the legitimate rulers of the entire peninsula.
Secluded and Isolated:
  • isolated by the government
  • also somewhat isolated geographically
  • after all, they are on a peninsula (surrounded by water on three sides)
  • Pyongyang is the capital
    • population: 3.2 million
    • located at 39 degrees north (latitude)
    • Bel Air, Maryland is also located at 39 degrees north
  • Border between North and South Korea is called the demilitarized border (DMZ)
